Shhh...Recording in Progress.
August 22, 2010
Well, actually, recording is done. Twelve songs, to be released this winter...some older ones and a bunch of brand new ones. We are going to disappear for a bit until the record comes out, but we will be back! In the meantime, here's 30 seconds of our finest work to date.
Free show on Saturday, August 14
August 14, 2010
We are doing another one of those free shows before the DC United game at RFK this saturday. It'll be our last show until we come back Novemberish with a NEW RECORD.
Fort Reno Footage
July 24, 2010
A National Park Service camera crew was at Fort Reno shooting video of the show. Apparently Uncle Sam wants to use it in a documentary about America's national parks. We'll see if you can get our hands on that. Meantime, here's some footage of "Cherry Delicious" and "Cut That Hair." Thanks to Lilly B. for posting these.
Fort Reno on Thursday July 22
July 19, 2010
Also, we finished tracking 12 songs at the Magpie Cage in Baltimore. Mixing to follow in August. Even more exciting, Bruce bought a new snare drum that will definitely bring a new level of drama and pathos to our stage show. Behold:
God bless our men and women in uniform...
May 18, 2010
We just played a really fun show at RFK before a DC United game. The weather was great and lots of our friends came out (thanks!). We tried to pump up the crowd with some profane Barra Brava chants, but most of the faithful were over at the tailgate. I doubt they needed our help getting pumped up anyway.
After our set, one of the security guards beckoned me with a stern expression on her face. I figured she wanted us to move our cars, or clear the stage by a certain time. Instead, she said she really liked our music...Then one of her colleagues came over and said "You guys sound good! I wanted to get out there and bounce." Apparently that's not allowed when you're on the clock, but it made my day. So thanks!
We're probably only going to do one or two shows this summer, but we are going to make a record in July. Hopefully we'll be back with a vengeance in the Fall.
These guys look ready to play soccer.

Here's a demo of a new tune cobbled together from live takes and computer demos. I think it's clear who wins by the end.
play PBS vs. The Robot - Hotter than a Pop Tart
Baltimore, Fredericksburg, Charlottesville, DC
March 15, 2010
April 2010 is going to be a big month for us. We are doing all the aformentioned cities, and we are playing with some great bands (Drunk Tigers, Cex) at some really cool events (Relay for Life at Mary Washington). Check the shows page for deets and holla at Facebook.
NERDNITE @ DC9, March 13
March 8, 2010
Nerdnite is a monthly event where scholarly types give lectures on what they're working on (this time - flys, birdsex, and race) and a band plays between talks while the smart people work it on the dance floor. We are really psyched to do this! Get advance tickets here, because Nerdnite is a hot seller!

Black Cat & Beyond...

Warm vibes to everyone who turned out to see us at the Black Cat on November 20. Thanks also to the Wrens for the invitation to open up the show. We had a great time and hope to make a habit of playing the Mainstage. Click here to check out some photos taken during out set.
We'll have information on future dates soon. Meantime, we're polishing off some new songs and creeping closer to releasing our first full-length album.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to see us at the Brooklyn Bowl. For those who couldn't be there, you can get a taste thanks to our new Flickr photostream. We'll continue updating it with glamour shots as they emerge. Next stop: The Black Cat.

October 22, 2009
We're thrilled to announce that we'll be celebrating our debut on Black Cat's Mainstage on Friday, November 20, with one of the baddest-ass bands around, the Wrens. Seriously, these guys are superheroes. All of the forces of the universe have come together on this one to make a great night of music. Black Cat Mainstage, Friday night, the Wrens...and, of course, yours truly. So please come check us out. Show's at 9pm. Tickets are $15.
PBS for FREE at the Brooklyn Bowl on 11/7
October 7, 2009
Well, it's been a busy few months, recording some new songs, writing, and sampling many a fine brown liquid. But it's time to collect ourselves and return to New York: November 7 at the Brooklyn Bowl, in fact. We're sharing a bill with The XYZ Affair, which is going to be fun. Come on out! Don't pretend like you don't know anyone in Brooklyn. Bring them too. We'll rule some faces. This show costs zero dollars, btw!!!
Thank You, Fort Reno People!
July 14, 2009
Hey, we had the best time ever at Fort Reno. Thanks especially to all those dancers, especially the guy who was breadancing on the turf - hope your back is doing ok today, dude! Come see us at DC9 on July 30 if you can. It's 18+, but we'll try and do an all ages show in DC ASAP.
Hello, Fort Reno!
July 12, 2009
(OK, this isn't really *news* news, but more of a reminder.) Even though we're spending the summer writing new songs, we hope to see you out at Fort Reno on Monday night (7/13).
See a FREE rock show, grab a drink, enjoy a beautiful summer night and still be home by 9:30. Not too shabby. Just make sure you come up and say hi.
DC Summer
June 12, 2009
Hey there. Just a quick note -- we've been busy in the studio recording the new songs and writing some others. Summer's a pretty busy time for us all (new jobs, website re-skin, houses, vacations, etc), so apologies that we've been absent from your stages, DC.
We're going to post some new stuff here soon (for your free enjoyment), so come back early, come back often.
Oh, and did I mention new shows? Yes yes, y'all.
We Evoke Dirty Projectors and Elvis Costello
April 2, 2009
According to this review of our show in the Onion/AV Club's new local website Decider That sounds like a pretty cool combination to us!
BYT Listening Party
March 12, 2009
So the blog Brightest Young Things did a little feature about us where we talk about the songs on our EP in gory detail. Check it out and leave a comment about us in the blogosphere.
Road Weekend
February 27, 2009
Hi. Poor But Sexy here. As I write this, we're driving out of Maryland, listening to a mix called "Durty Durst 1" (made by our friend Eric) featuring The Isley Brothers, Earth Wind and Fire, Jill Scott, D'Angelo, and a curious preponderance of tracks from the soundtrack for Love Jones. Yeah, Eric rolls like that.
Looking forward to a weekend of shows (Chicago and Pittsburgh, Saturday and Sunday), though to be honest right now it feels a little more like the beginning of a full-fledged tour than a short weekend jaunt out west.
So this here website is a new thing, as are the t-shirts, and the online store, and some photos. The t-shirts are gen-u-ine American Apparel and each shirt comes with a coupon for free Poor But Sexy downloads, so be sure to get yours. Who doesn't want a shirt that says "Poor But Sexy" anyway?
